SB 600 offers discounted electric rates to industrial users and manufacturers whose rates, like everyone’s, have continued to skyrocket in the past few years. However, someone is going to have to make up the cost of these discounts and, per usual, it’s not going to be the utility shareholders. It’s going to be you and me. More

HB 2534, the Local Energy Efficiency Partnership (LEEP) Act is in the House Energy Committee and must be passed by both the House Energy and Finance Committees before it can be voted on by the full House. Time is running out to get the bill passed and over to the Senate. More

On Monday, February 12, the Senate Natural Resources Committee replaced SB 270, the bill opening all our state parks to commercial logging, with a substitute “pilot program.” The substitute bill restricts timbering to Watoga State Park. More

Governor Still Can’t See the Park for the Trees
A lot of work has been happening to stop a bill that would allow commercial logging in state parks from making its way onto any committee agenda at the legislature. SB 270 (HB 4182) is a bill that its proponents say is about forest health, or revenue, or fire prevention- actually, we can’t keep up with all of their excuses! More
