Please save the date for Monday, February 17. We will be participating the in the 19th Amendment Centennial Celebration at the State Capitol. It’s also President’s Day. If you have the day off, come lobby your legislators and help spread the word about the need to protect voting rights and fight the influence of money in politics. More details will be forthcoming.

MOJO IS BACK — The Modern Jobs (MoJo) Act, HB 4172 Introduced in House
This bill removes barriers to solar development so that West Virginia stops losing out on jobs in the fastest-growing occupation in the country: solar installers. It allows large electricity users to access solar, so long as the solar arrays are built on former coal mines in West Virginia. More

So far, we are already tracking SO many bills! Many of the bills are carried over from last year, including two versions of the Power Purchase Agreement bill–the PPA bill we are working on hasn’t been introduced yet! We see a lot of carryover relating to landfills, public lands, and solar. More

WV E-Council Key Initiatives Bite the Dust
For 75 days- including for one week prior to and a week following the end of the recent 60 day regular session of the WV legislature- lobbyists for the WV Environmental Council (WVEC) walked the hallways of the capitol, attended uncounted legislative committee meetings, schemed with lobbyists from allied social justice organizations, encouraged citizens “back home” to contact legislators in support of environmental law sanity- all in an effort to recruit political support for WVEC’s 2019 legislative agenda. More

On Tuesday, a bill that would have allowed off-road vehicle use (4x4s) in our state parks and forests, was gutted. Senate Bill 676 would have directed the Division of Natural Resources to develop a comprehensive plan for public roads suitable for off-road recreation as well as creating a fund for off-road vehicle recreation. More
