Legislative Update
The environmental bills we are watching had little activity this week. The Water Quality Standards Rule, HB 2382, was quickly thrown onto the Senate Judiciary Committee agenda for Tuesday earlier this week, but was pulled off the agenda due to time constraints. This bill is now on the Judiciary Committee agenda for Monday, March 22 at 3 pm. More

We just concluded week 6 at the legislature and not many bills we are watching moved this week. However, as we are well into the session, some important deadlines are coming up. Tuesday, March 16, is the last day for bills to be introduced in the House and March 22 is the last day for bills to be introduced in the Senate. March 28 is the last day for bills to be reported out of committees and March 31 is crossover day. More

Legislative Updates, Week 5
SB404, which would modify well work permits issued by the WV Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Oil and Gas was passed out of the House Energy Committee today and read for the first time on the floor. As mentioned earlier, the additional funds generated by this bill may be used to hire and retain additional inspectors. WVEC supports this bill and we hope to see it pass on Tuesday of next week and head to Governor Justice’s desk. More

Hi, everyone! We have concluded week 5 at the legislature, and are now past the half-way mark. Next week is the last week that bills can be introduced in the House and Senate. We are keeping a close eye on about 45 bills, many of which have not even made it to committee agendas, which is both good and bad. We saw two very bad bills pass the House this week, but one good bill, SB 404, made it through both chambers and is set to hit the Governor’s desk. More

SB30, sponsored by Senator Trump, which would permit third-party ownership of renewable and alternative energy generating facilities, is currently in the Senate Committee on Economic Development with a second reference to Senate Government Organization. HB2667, introduced by Delegate Clay Riley, is intended to promote cost savings for state taxpayers by implementing: an energy savings program for assessment and implementation of energy savings goals for state buildings and provide for prequalification of energy savings performance contractors; auditing energy metering devices installed at state buildings; and establishing benchmarking and energy efficiency goals for state buildings. More

If you have been keeping up with our social media, you are aware that we, along with other WV advocacy organizations, requested a public hearing for HB 2598 from both Delegate Anderson and Delegate Pack, which were denied. In response to these denials, we collaborated with WV Rivers Coalition, OVEC, WV CAG and WV Sierra Club to host our own People’s Public Hearing today to which all legislators and members of the public were invited. More
