The 2025 legislative session began on February 12, and our lobby team wasted no time getting to work. Veteran lobbyists Lucia Valentine and Kasey Russell attended the State of the State address and have spent the first few days meeting with lawmakers and stakeholders to advance our legislative priorities. This year, we’re focused on protecting community air monitoring, upholding water quality standards, safeguarding public lands, and addressing abandoned gas wells. More

Governor Morrisey’s State of the State address outlined his priorities, with an outcome focused on ensuring that West Virginians, particularly young West Virginians, no longer feel like they have to leave the state to find opportunity. However, the Governor’s plan to expand fossil fuel-based energy and “maximize” our state’s “water-rich resources” wholeheartedly ignores that many communities in West Virginia do not have access to clean air or clean water.
