West Virginia’s primary election season offers an excellent opportunity to meet and engage with candidates running for office. By attending candidate debate forums and meet-and-greet events, you can share information and personal stories about critical environmental issues that are important to you. Showing up lets candidates know how strongly environmental issues resonate with their constituents.

So, find out who’s running for the WV Senate and WV House of Delegates and attend their candidate events ASAP, before early voting starts!

Primary Early Voting In Person: May 1 – May 11, 2024
Primary Election Day: Tuesday, May 14. Polls are open 6:30 am-7:30 pm.

Top 5 Reasons to Engage with Candidates During West Virginia’s Primary Election Season

  • FIVE: It’s an excellent opportunity to fulfill your civic duty and actively participate in our democracy.
  • FOUR: You’re wondering, ”Who’s running for office?” “Where do they stand on the environmental issues I care about?” and “Will they serve cookies at the candidate debate?”
  • THREE: We need more people in the West Virginia legislature who support renewable energy and protect our air, land and water.
  • TWO: You love to wax poetic on the virtues of community solar, community air monitoring and plugging orphan gas wells in front of complete strangers.
  • ONE: The primary election season is an opportune time for making your voice heard.

A special thank you to Jim Kotcon, Chair, West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club for sharing his reflections about the importance of engaging with candidates.
