At any time, the Senate Finance Committee is set to consider HB 2896, which aims to designate West Virginia as an agreement state with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC). However, this move could result in a financial burden of at least 9 million dollars for the state over the next 4-8 years. More

This week at the legislature was a busy one! As we approach the LAST week of session, the pressure is on to get bills that crossed over out of committee considered on the floor. Halfway through the session, we changed our format from a weekly round-up to a breakdown of bills that are still alive that we are working on getting passed and those we are trying to defeat, along with steps you can take. More

Action Alerts WVEC March 1, 2023
Protect Our Drinking Water
The PFAS Protection Act, HB 3189, is expected to be voted on Tuesday, March 7 by the Senate Government Organization Committee. This bill will require the state to immediately identify and reduce PFAS at the source and establish required limits on PFAS discharges into our drinking water sources. This bill helps hold polluters responsible for cleaning up and preventing further contamination of our drinking water sources. Tell members of the Senate Government Organization Committee you want them to pass HB 3189, the PFAS Protection Act, to help protect our drinking water sources! More

WV DEP Holding Public Meeting on Ethylene Oxide Monitoring: Thursday, March 2, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Over the past year, the WV Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) has held a series of public events around its fenceline monitoring project and announced last week that it had signed a collaborative agreement with Union Carbide Corporation’s Institute facility to reduce ethylene oxide (EtO) emissions. It also announced it has published its final report on its monitoring project. To learn more, please attend this week's in-person public meeting on Thursday, March 2, from 6-8 pm. More
