We’re excited to introduce the West Virginia Environmental Council’s spring interns, part of a new initiative developed and led by WVEC Lobbyist Kasey Russell. We’re collaborating with Concord University Professor Charles Ford on this effort. As part of their work, the interns have created and are currently conducting a survey aimed at better understanding how West Virginians feel about key issues like the environment, conservation, energy, and more. We’ll be sharing the survey in the weeks to come.

Meet Jennifer Mills:

Jennifer wanted to intern with the West Virginia Environmental Council to take advantage of any opportunity offered to her.The WVEC does several things that are interesting to her, and she loves that they work together with other interest groups to solve problems and promote a better environment for WV instead of trying to do everything themselves.

Meet Garret Pritt:

Garret wanted an internship with the WVEC because it perfectly combines his passion for politics and his commitment to protecting the environment. When two WVEC representatives visited his State and Local Government class last fall, he was instantly inspired by their work and the organization’s mission. Garret had no idea that so many environmental nonprofits were working together in West Virginia, and learning about them opened his eyes to the power of grassroots lobbying. After meeting the people involved and realizing how much common ground we shared, he knew it was an opportunity he didn’t want to miss. As a Political Science major who cares deeply about creating a cleaner, safer future, this internship feels like the perfect fit for Garret.

Meet Abby Stovall:

Abby is a junior political science and business major planning to pursue law school. This WVEC internship  piqued her interest because when going into law, it is important to know how to approach people from all walks of life, how to research, and how to communicate that research to others effectively. This internship allows her to research environmental issues West Virginians are facing, find out what West Virginians think about them, and communicate the research and thoughts to legislators and other members of the community.

The WVEC welcomes Jennifer, Garret, and Abby’s contributions to our work, especially during this busy legislative season, and looks forward to seeing the results of their survey and other research! If you know of other students or places of higher education who would like to work with us, please email info@wvecouncil.org.
