Hi {contact.email_greeting},

The time has come. In just a few days, more than 30 organizations from around the state will gather at the Capitol to celebrate the power of environmental advocacy during E-Day! For nearly four decades, E-Day has been an important convening of environmental experts and advocates from every corner of West Virginia. Whether it’s your first time exploring how to get involved, or just another event on your calendar as a seasoned changemaker, E-Day is for everyone. This year, E-Day will include student speakers, a session with WVEC lobbyists, a Q & A session with lawmakers, and the opportunity to network with a diverse group of environmentalists.

Gary Zuckett, the winner of last year’s WVEC Lifetime Achievement Award at E-Day, holds up an E-Day shirt with the original E-Day design.

The first E-Day, held in 1990, attracted more than 600 West Virginians who heralded the 90s as the “Decade of the Environment.” Although it was decades ago, many of the issues raised that day are similar concerns today. Our communications coordinator wrote more about the similarities in “Nearly four decades later, West Virginia still grapples with the same issues.” We’re looking forward to hearing from friends around the state about what they believe are the most pressing environmental issues in their communities.

Data centers come to mind when discussing key modern environmental problems. WVEC Vice President Morgan King is organizing against the massive data center development happening in West Virginia. She’s meeting with other environmentalists from organizations like West Virginia Rivers Coalition, Sierra Club, Tucker United, and others to strategize how to better fight back against the influx of development.

West Virginians deserve safe, healthy environments. Our lands and lives are gambled in the hands of leaders who choose industry over residents. We’ll continue to fight against corrupt policy, and we hope you’ll join us. There are so many ways to support environmental protection and preservation. Some roles are more active than others. You can support our work by donating, sharing this newsletter, and getting involved through one of our member organizations.

E-Day Through The Years
WVEC
Nearly four decades ago, in 1990, hundreds of West Virginians gathered at the Capitol to rally for the environment. Today, many of their struggles are our struggles, including groundwater protection and waste disposal.

This week, we won’t be highlighting a member organization, but one of our At-Large Board Members. Quenton King is not only an at-large board member, but WVEC’s President. King also served as WVEC Vice President last term. As always, the following is a Q&A-style interview between our communications coordinator and King.
