Dave McMahon Metro News Radio Interview: Update on Orphaned Well Bills

In our newsletter we said that one of our legislative priorities was a trio of bills to provide money to plug wells that have already become orphans.  Two of those bills already passed out of the first committee in the House!  H.B. 4090 reduces the severance tax on low producing wells (5 to 60,000 MCF of gas a day) to 2.5% and dedicates that remaining 2.5% to plugging orphaned wells.

The second bill allowed drillers to pay an extra permit fee for an expedited permit review and dedicated half of that to plugging orphaned wells.  We are still working on a third bill to use money due to missing and unknown royalty owners for that purpose, plus a bill that will help prevent wells from becoming  orphaned.

WVSORO co-founder Dave McMahon was invited to talk about those bills on Hoppy Kercheval’s Talk-Line radio show!  Here it is if you want to listen.
