Last night we from all over the state gathered together in fellowship at the Woman’s Club to celebrate our friends’ courageous acts, our friendships and our wins in the legislature! We were treated to a wonderful dinner prepared by Greg and Karen that consisted of vegetarian lasagna, pork loin, salad, vegetables, bread, and dessert.
We had several awards that were handed out. Bill Price presented the Youth Activism Award to Ciera Pennington. Brandon Richardson, a local resident and organizer with Headwaters Defense presented The Fayette County Commission who received the Chuck Chambers Public Service award. Angie Rosser presented the Special Volunteer Award to Greg Carroll. Judy Rodd with Friends of Blackwater presented Linda Schnautz Environmental Courage to Bill DePaulo. Karan Ireland presented the Laura Forman Grassroots Activist of the Year to Cathy Kunkel. And Frank Young presented Mother Jones Award to Cindy Ellis, who is president of the WV Highlands Conservancy.
The great music was provided last night by the Replacements which consisted of Michael Lipton, Stephen Hill, Ammed Soloman and friend. There was definitely some stress relief dancing going on after dinner! Along with some heavy bidding on the silent auction bidding and a live auction bidding of one of the first E Council T Shirts that was bought by our own Bill Price and graciously donated back to be auctioned off another time! After an exhaustive session the awards dinner was a welcome respite that we all needed away from the Capitol! Thanks for everyone’s hard work to bring it all together for such a great night!
