WVEC Action AlertMay 3, 2007Below:
Alert passed on from WV Citizen Action Group Urge Congress To Pass the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Bills (S-309) and (H.R. 1590) A floor vote in the US House of Representatives and US Senate should be coming up soon on two very important bills that would drastically reduce the US’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and significantly mitigate the impacts of climate change. These bills are: the Senate’s Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act (S-309) and the House of Representative’s Safe Climate Act of 2007 (H.R. 1590). Both bills would reduce the US’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050. Recent scientific research by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the 2006 Stern Report indicate that a target GHG reduction of 80% by 2050 would prevent the worst case climate change impacts from occurring. Please contact your US House Rep. and Senators and urge them to support these important bills. Contact Info:
