WVEC Action AlertSeptember 28, 2005Support Wilderness this Thursday at the State Capitol Greetings! On Thursday, September 29th at 2:30 pm, Governor Manchin will officially proclaim September as West Virginia’s ‘Wilderness Month’ at a press event at the Capitol. We are optimistic that this could be the first step towards getting his office to support the Forest Service’s Alternative 3 in their current management plan revision. Alternative 3 recommends a significant amount of new wilderness designations including places like Seneca Creek, East Fork of Greenbrier and the expansion of the Cranberry Wilderness (among others, 11 areas total). Alternative 3 also protects many more special places as ‘backcountry areas’ and has the least amount of logging of all the draft plans. Click here for details and to submit your official comments on the plan (deadline Nov. 14). Please come out and show your support at this event by gathering at the Capitol Rotunda (upstairs at the Well) by 2:15 on the 29th. It will be a huge opportunity for us to show the Governor (and the press who will be there) that West Virginians support the protection of our wild forests! A group of us from Morgantown will be caravanning down so let me know if you’d like to join us or meet up along the way! Let me know if you have questions or need directions.
