Tonight, HB 2506, a bill that would allow more cancer-causing toxins to be dumped into our water supply, is moving through the amendment stage in the WV Senate and is expected to be up for final vote tomorrow. Please, call and email your Senator. Ask them to vote no on this terrible bill.
It doesn’t stop there.
SB 687, a bill disingenuously termed a coal mining, safety and environmental protection bill, would dramatically undermine protections for streams across the state by changing West Virginia’s narrative water quality standards, making it easier for the coal industry to get away with pollution that kills life in streams. This bill is fast tracked in the Senate and is expected to be before the House of Delegates by the end of the week.
We are working on a Public Hearing on SB 687, and we need your help. SB 687 would make West Virginia’s narrative water quality standards among the weakest in the nation, and make it easier for polluters to legally get away with damaging life in streams.
Look for more updates from us soon. We’re still fighting, and we need your help now more than ever.
