A Collaborative Roundup with Our Partners at WV Rivers Coalition, WV Citizen Action Group

Dangerous legislative bills threaten our communities, and we need your help. Please call your legislators today and urge them to vote NO on HB 2014, SB 592, and SB 940.

Here’s what’s at stake:

HB 2014 prioritizes data centers at the expense of our natural resources and local control. Learn more here.

  • Strips local control over zoning and ordinances
  • Diverts millions in property tax revenue from schools and public services
  • Build-out and maintenance likely mean even higher electricity rates for consumers like us
  • Some data centers in neighboring Virginia consume over 1 million gallons of water per day
  • TAKE ACTION: Tell your members of the State Senate: NO on HB 2014! Find their phone number here to leave a message. Follow up with an email here.

SB 592 guts protections put in place after the 2014 Elk River chemical spill, putting our drinking water at risk once again. Learn more here.

  • Deregulates oil and gas tanks upstream from and near public drinking water intakes
  • Weakens tank inspection and reporting of leaking tanks. Leaks are common.
  • WV Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) data indicate that approximately 38% of all confirmed releases reported to the agency are from tanks located within Zones of Critical Concern (ZCCs.) The intent of SB 592 is to deregulate these tanks.
  • TAKE ACTION: Tell your member of the House of Delegates: NO on SB 592! Find their phone number here to leave a message. Follow up with an email here.

SB 940 strips local governments of the ability to protect our water. It blocks cities and counties from setting pollution standards stronger than the state or federal government — even when local needs demand it.

  • TAKE ACTION: Tell your member of the House of Delegates: NO on SB 940! Find their phone number here to leave a message. Follow up with an email here.

These bills all attack local control and public health. We can’t let that happen.

Please CALL your legislators today and tell them to vote NO on SB 940, HB 2014, and SB 592.

Let’s make some noise. Our water, health, and communities are worth it.
