From our Partners at WV Rivers Coalition In 2014, the West Virginia Legislature passed the Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Act in response to the devastating Elk River chemical leak. This law was designed to prevent future water crises by ensuring regular inspections of tanks storing hazardous chemicals near drinking water sources. Now, industry lobbyists are pushing SB 592, a bill that weakens these protections and puts our drinking water at risk. Members of the Senate Energy, Industry, and Mining Committee have this bill on the agenda for 2:00 PM today. Tell lawmakers to protect our water by opposing SB 592. Take action with us now: Help us remind leaders of what is at stake. 300,000 West Virginians were without clean water when that tank at Freedom Industry leaked a chemical used to clean coal into the Elk River, right above the intake for West Virginia American Water. Join us in insisting that leaders remember the past and protect our future. Send a quick message to Senate leaders now to OPPOSE SB 592. For clean water & healthy communities, West Virginia Rivers Coalition |
