Today is Crossover Day when bills must pass their house of origin to stay alive. Here’s a quick recap of some bills we are still watching and how you can help: Bad Bill With only 10 days remaining in the legislative session, keep making those calls to stop one of the most harmful bills of the session: HB 2598. This dangerous bill would exempt oil and gas tanks in the Zones of Critical Concern from the Aboveground Storage Tank Act. It is still pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Your calls are working! Please call and email your Senators and tell them to vote no on HB 2598 and remind them that the WV DEP opposes this bill. Contact the Senate Judiciary Committee at (304) 357-7880 or here. Good News! HB 2667 passed the House yesterday and is pending in the Senate Government Organization Committee. This bipartisan bill, sponsored by Delegate Clay Riley, Delegate Evan Hansen and others, creates a cost-saving program for state buildings regarding energy efficiency. Please call Senate Government Organization Chairman Maynard and urge him to place this bill on his agenda – (304) 357-7808. More Good News! Another bipartisan bill just passed the House today that we and our members have worked hard on all session, HB 3310, which allows for Power Purchase Agreements for solar installations. This will create opportunities for WV homeowners, schools, hospitals, churches, and other nonprofits to utilize solar power without upfront installation costs. Please call Delegate Moore Capito at 304-340-3252 and thank him for originating this bill in the House Judiciary Committee. A Senate committee reference has not been listed yet, but we will keep you posted on our social media and in Friday’s newsletter. Be on the lookout! Support the WVEC Lobby Team Last but not least, please take a moment to support our hard-working lobby team by making a donation here. We appreciate your support! |
