WV Rivers Discusses HB4079 on The Legislature Today
This week, WV Rivers executive director, Angie Rosser, was a guest on the WV Public Broadcasting program The Legislature Today. She discussed the cumulative impacts oil & gas development is having on our environment and the dangers of HB4079, the bill that would exempt oil & gas storage tanks closest to drinking water intakes from the Aboveground Storage Tank Act (ASTA). A new bill led by Delegate Hansen (D-Monongalia), called the West Virginia Clean Drinking Water Act of 2020, was introduced in the House as HB4542. WV Rivers and the West Virginia Environmental Council endorse this bill which aims to identify and reduce exposure to class of chemical toxins known as polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. More

So far, we are already tracking SO many bills! Many of the bills are carried over from last year, including two versions of the Power Purchase Agreement bill–the PPA bill we are working on hasn’t been introduced yet! We see a lot of carryover relating to landfills, public lands, and solar. More

Remember that S.B. 625 provides that, when public water utilities involve the public in developing their source water protection plans, they are allowed to share information that is already in the public domain. It passed the House on Thursday and is headed to the Governor; you can read more in a Gazette-Mail report here. And more. More
