Charleston Gazette-Mail
Governor Morrissey delivered the 2026 State of the State address last week. Mike Tony of the Charleston Gazette-Mail published two articles on how the Governor plans to address flooding and energy issues. WVEC President Quenton King was quoted in the first, and partner organization West Virginia Citizen Action Group executive director Dani Parent was quoted in the second article on energy. Check them out:
“West Virginia’s dearth of flood-focused would persist under Morrissey plan”
“Last year was West Virginia’s deadliest in flood fatalities since 2016, when a deluge left 23 people dead and displaced more than 2,000 people, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Data…”
“…It’s encouraging to hear something is planned to help communities get faster alerts about flooding,” West Virginia Environmental Council president Quenton King said in response to Morrisey’s State of the State, “But there’s so much more to be done.”
“Morrisey, Legislature actions don’t match words on energy costs as session opens”

“Gov. Patrick Morrisey opened his second State of the State address before the West Virginia Legislature inside a packed House of Delegates Chamber Wednesday evening by acknowledging that ‘many West Virginians are still struggling to make ends meet.’”
“The path he proposed will repeat the same tired mistakes,” Dani Parent, executive director of West Virginia Citizen Action Group, a progressive advocacy group, said of Morrisey in an emailed statement, “Fast-tracking dirty energy, weakening oversight and shutting communities out of decisions.”
