Member Organization Spotlight

We’re excited to introduce a new series to the GREEN Newsletter! Every week, we will highlight a WVEC board member or member organization. Our members and member organizations work tirelessly to protect West Virginians and their environment. They deserve a special spotlight series so you can learn more about them and their work.

The first member organization is the mother of so many important advocacy groups around the state. It’s through West Virginia Citizen Action Group (WV CAG) that organizations like WVEC came to be and continue to be successful.

WV CAG has advocated for issues that impact the everyday West Virginian, like protecting Medicaid and affordable energy. Just this summer, WV CAG aided communities in Mingo County and Logan County in their fight against the development of two massive gas-fired power plants. Through the effort of dozens in the community, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection moved a virtual hearing to an in-person hearing, where nearly all 75 people in attendance voiced opposition. The communities continue to fight against the development with the support of WV CAG organizers.

CAG organizers and community members protest ARCH2 in Dunbar, WV.

For more than 50 years, WV CAG has uplifted voices all over the state in the fight for a clean environment, healthcare access, and government accountability. WVEC is proud to work with WV CAG in protecting the environment for generations to come. For more information or to learn how you can support their mission, visit wvcag.org
