The environmental bills we are watching had little activity this week. The Water Quality Standards Rule, HB 2382, was quickly thrown onto the Senate Judiciary Committee agenda for Tuesday earlier this week, but was pulled off the agenda due to time constraints. This bill is now on the Judiciary Committee agenda for Monday, March 22 at 3 pm.
The oil and gas tank exemptions bill (from Aboveground Storage Tank Act), HB 2598, is also pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee. We are expecting to see this bill put on the agenda soon.
Please contact your Senate Judiciary members and let them know that you oppose both the weakening of our water quality standards and allowing oil and gas tanks to go unregulated near our drinking water intakes. We still need your help fighting these bills!
On a positive note, SB 404 passed the House this week and is now headed to the Governor’s Desk to sign. This bill will help fund the Office of Oil and Gas within the Department of Environmental Protection, which adds an application fee of $2,500 to modify existing well permits.
The fight continues!
