The West Virginia Legislature gaveled into session on Wednesday, and Senate Bill 30, a bill to legalize on-site Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), was introduced on opening day. Let your legislators know that you support SB 30 and want them to legalize on-site PPAs in 2021!
PPAs are a critical financing mechanism that can help businesses, homeowners, and civic institutions like schools, governments, and churches save money on their electricity costs. But West Virginia’s monopoly utility companies would prefer to protect their profit margins by blocking this legislation. My SUN colleague Aaron Sutch wrote a recent blog post about how electric utility company ApCo is thwarting solar on public schools across the border in southwest Virginia. Don’t let utilities pull the same stunt in our state! Tell your lawmakers to stand up for energy freedom by legalizing on-site PPAs in West Virginia.
Public support for this policy is strong, bipartisan, and growing. Last weekend, four West Virginia newspapers published letters to the editor supporting PPAs from West Virginians for Energy Freedom coalition members. Thanks to our coalition members for this incredible show of support!
Let’s keep up the momentum: Contact your lawmakers today and ask them to support energy freedom in West Virginia by passing SB 30 and legalizing on-site PPAs.
