September 5: Tuscarora Trail Day Hike with Sierra Club West Virginia | Wardensville at 10 a.m.
- This 8.6-mile hike along the Tuscarora Trail is rated as difficult. It is an area rich in oak and black gum forest and birdlife. Because we will carpool from the meeting place to the hike’s start, you must be willing to drive or ride with others. September 11-13: Camp CAG | Camp Virgil Tate
- Meet other members from all over the state at the 2026 Member Congress at Camp Virgil Tate, outside of Charleston. Connect with other members, and help decide where CAG goes next. Dive into trainings on organizing and advocacy, form member-led working groups, share ideas, and make important decisions about future campaigns and priorities. - West Virginia United is hosting a rally in front of the Capitol to express disapproval for HB 2014. Join them on the south steps of the Capitol at 1900 Kanawha Blvd. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
September 19: Three Rivers Avian Center presents Wings of Wonder | Kanawha State Forest at 2 p.m.
- Come meet six native West Virginia wild bird ambassadors up close, including live owls, falcons, a raven, hawk and our bald eagle Regis. Learn about their habitats, diet, unique abilities and the dangers they face. Meet on the Nature Center lawn, and remember to bring a chair or blanket. This event is free and open to all ages! WVEC Lobby Coordinator Opening
The West Virginia Environmental Council (WVEC) is hiring a Lobby Coordinator to begin in October 2026 and serve at least through the end of March 2027. Prior to the start of the 2027 Legislative Session, the Lobby Coordinator will participate in monthly Legislative Interim Sessions and assist in developing WVEC’s lobby strategy. This work will be part-time, at approximately 10-15 hours per week, starting October 1, 2026, through January 13, 2027.
At the start of the 2027 West Virginia Regular Legislative Session on January 14, 2027, the Lobby Coordinator will perform in-person legislative lobbying on a full-time basis, representing and advocating on behalf of WVEC’s member coalition. This work will require a combination of standard 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours and occasional nights and weekends, depending on the legislative schedule.
We anticipate an option to negotiate a continuation of this contract pending performance and grant funding. Priority will be granted to applicants who submit by September 15. Visit our website for more information.
