Welcome to our recap of the 2021 Legislative Session! The 60 days of the session were a whirlwind! We have a lot to report to you.

Thank you so much for your support – from making calls and sending emails to your legislators, to renewing your WVEC membership and making a donation to the 2021 lobby team, to speaking out at public hearings. We truly cannot do it without you.

Thank you to Hannah King and Rob Casto for leading our lobbying efforts this session. It was a challenging year with COVID restrictions but they amplified your voice with legislators despite the hurdles. They worked all hours to monitor committee meetings, read bills, reach out to partners and the media, attend coalition meetings, and write the WVEC weekly newsletter. We so appreciate their hard work!

Please consider a donation to help us monitor upcoming interims – our work doesn’t end at the close of the session! Here is the interim schedule:

May: 10 (Limited schedule)
June: 6, 7, 8
July, August: None
September: 12, 13, 14
October: 10, 11, 12
November: 14, 15, 16
December: 5, 6, 7

Thanks again  for all of your support!

Recap of the 2021 Legislative Session
WVEC
The 2021 Legislative Session has come to a close, and we worked hard throughout the last 60 days to stop the bad bills and help get the good ones through. We had some great wins, and some not-so-great losses.

Budget Bill $$ for Environmental Programs
WVEC
Going into this year’s session there were a lot of concerns regarding budget cuts to various agencies and programs for Fiscal Year 2022. While we all seem to focus our attention on legislative issues, the budget process plays a significant role in our ability to achieve our priorities.
