2016 WVEC and WVCAG Legislative Kick-Off Blast

On Tuesday January 19, 2016 the West Virginia Environmental Council in conjunction with Citizens Action Group had their annual Legislative Kickoff Blast at the Charleston Woman’s Club on Virginia Street.  Many Friends, Legislators and members of the environmental community gathered on a cold night to enjoy great friends, conversation, dancing, food, music and great action items!

During the social hour the guests were invited to bid on silent auction items which ranged from homemade canned goods in which I was lucky enough to take home three different gift baskets.  To a wide array of books, prints, photos, and crafts.  The highlight of the night was a limited edition print by Charles Jupiter Hamilton which was auctioned off.  All of the numbers have not been finalized but it looks like we have netted over $2000 which is more than we were expecting!

On the menu for the event we were lucky enough for experience some great food. The night featured a chicken or vegetarian pad Thai prepared by Raj Pongsugree from Thaibilly Kitchen, A great selection of cheeses, nuts and crackers and three different salads prepared by Greg Carroll.  And to finish up the night there was a table of sweets to tempt your belly.

The night wrapped up with some great music from That High Country Revival.  They are a modern string band with a driving old-time feel. Their members include Chris Lovejoy: vocals, guitar & harmonica Matt Spade: Vocals, mandolin, guitar Stan Bumgardner: Fiddle R. D. Dean: Bass John Nelson: Banjo, harmonica, guitar, vocals Goose Sizemore: Hooterboard and other percussion. They are from Charleston.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to the Legislative Kickoff,  met our lobby team, enjoyed great food and friends and learned more about legislative agenda for the 2016 legislative session.
