WVEC Action Alert

February 2, 2009

Support the WVEC Lobby Team!

Dear Friends,

Are you still celebrating the change that has come to Washington, D.C.?

Well, it’s time to get back to reality . . . and time to work to bring change to West Virginia.

The West Virginia Legislature convenes February 11, just barely a week from now.  And while positive change for the environment may have come to D.C., we still need your financial support to continue the uphill battle to protect our environment from the entrenched political interests who threaten it.  It’s financial support from people like you that allows us to continue lobbying for clean air, clean water, and good green jobs for citizens of the Mountain State.

2009 is the 20th year that the West Virginia Environmental Council has been your voice for the environment at the State Capitol.  Since 1989, we have fought successfully for the Ground Water Protection Act, model landfill and solid waste laws, non-game wildlife funding, and protecting our state’s most pristine rivers and streams.  We have fought successfully against weakening air quality and water quality standards, weakening polluters’ reporting requirements (“Dirty Secrets” bill), and building mega-landfills across the state.

In the 2009 Legislature we will continue our 5-year Renewable Energy Campaign to promote green energy, create new green jobs, and do our part in the battle against global warming.  We will continue our opposition to mountaintop removal mining, and to impacts to water quantity and quality from irresponsible oil and gas development.

Friends, it takes real dollars to fund the WVEC lobby team and provide the year-round presence in Charleston that has been so invaluable in increasing our effectiveness in advocating for the environment.  We depend on your contributions to make it all happen.

With your support, WVEC will continue the “good fight” for another 20 years.

Won’t you please help?  Thanks for your continued support.
